Medieval Asturias

The Kingdom of Asturias inaugurated the Middle Ages in our region. Royal headquarters, churches, monasteries and castles are the main centers of power of the monarchy and the aristocracy altomedieval. However, most of the rural population lived in small villages with modest homes and simple domestic regalia. The art of Monarchy Astur, notable for its original architecture and ornamental. From the thirteenth century, the new urban centers and villages (the Asturian polas) concentrated population and centralize the business functions, administrative and craft .In these cities, towns and villages are built new Romanesque and Gothic churches. Of late medieval aristocracy emerges starring a new political activity, economic and social  of the region.
