In some cases they are places of deep symbolic meaning as the cave of La Pe帽a de Candamo in the lower basin of Nal贸n, La Loja (El Mazo) cave, in the lower basin of the river Deva, or Santa Cruz dolmen located in a strategic place in the town of Cangas de Onis at the confluence of two rivers, and on which was erected a small chapel.
Evidence of Castre帽a culture, with abundant remains in western Asturias, as the hillforts, castros of Chao de Samartin and Taramundi, overlaps with Roman remains as seen in these hills forts, and also in the archaeological site of Gij贸n through settlements of La Campa de Torres, the Campo Val茅s roman baths and Veranes house.
