The Archaeological Museum of Asturias is organising a series of five conferences on the occasion of the exhibition of the same title, which was inaugurated on 22 December in the temporary exhibition hall as part of the programme of events to commemorate the 1300th anniversary of the Battle of Covadonga organised by the Government of the Principality of Asturias.

The aim of the exhibition is to provide an overview of the most recent archaeology carried out at important archaeological sites in Asturias and Cantabria, the core area of the Kingdom of Asturias, as well as to examine the figure of Pelayo and the Battle of Cuadonga/Covadonga from the analysis of written sources and to offer an insight into the society of the northwest of the peninsula at that time in history.
