THE BODOCENA STELA IS ADDED TO THE PERMANENT COLLECTION

The Archaeological Museum of Asturias incorporates to its permanent exhibition a singular piece, the stele of Bodocena, a funerary slab from the 1st century found during the renovation works of a rural construction in L'Auteiru, in the town of Vil.laverde, in the council of Belmonte de Miranda. It has a remarkable historical interest due to the use of an indigenous anthroponym, unpublished in the region, and the reference to the patronymic or filiation, although the most outstanding feature in the text is the inclusion of a symbol, interpreted by most specialists as an allusion to the place of origin or belonging of the individual. It was found thirty years ago in an orchard in Vil.laverde (Belmonte de Miranda) and has recently been acquired by the Consejería de Cultura, Política Llingüística y Turismo for its deposit and exhibition in the museum.
